Working in the fields of music theatre, sound art, film and all undefined grey areas in between, Severin's artistic practice is based on the very physical and haptic investigation of all materials surrounding us, trying to aesthetically explore and combine their acoustic and visual potential to the fullest. Guided by his fascination of re-contextualisation and the meta-level of art-making, he loves to take forays through history, discovering and often quoting directly music, images or texts that appear to have a special beauty, personal or social significance to him.

After graduating in 2016 from the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München with a bachelors degree in Composition, Severin lived in Paris, where he studied with Jean-Luc Hervé and Yan Maresz at the CNR Boulogne-Billancourt. He followed up this stay abroad with a masters study in acoustic composition under the tutorship of Beat Furrer and Clemens Gadenstätter at the Kunstuniversität Graz. Since 2021 he is completing his academic education at the Hochschule der Künste Bern under the guidance of Simon Steen-Andersen and Cathy van Eck.

Severin has received lessons and taken part in masterclasses with composers such as Salvatore Sciarrino, Mark Andre, Jennifer Walshe and Brian Ferneyhough and his music has been performed at festivals such as the Darmstädter Ferienkurse, Impuls Academy Graz and at the Accademia Chigiana Siena, the Q21 Museumsquartier Wien and the PLAYTIME Festival Bern among others. He received awards from the Musikpreis Gasteig (2014), the Augsburger Philharmoniker, the Open Recorder Days 2019 and by the cité Boulogne-Billancourt (Prix Alain Louvier 2017). In the past he was so lucky to be able to work together with musicians like Anja Lechner, Sarah Aristidou, Eva Resch, Aldo Campagnari, Members of Klangforum Wien, Les Percussions de Strasbourg and Vertixe Sonora, besides his ongoing often interdisciplinary collaborations, especially in the field of theatre. He is a founding member of the composer collective FACERE and of the upcoming ensemble project COCAINE HIPPOS.
