When Alexander Graham Bell invented the Photophone in the year 1880 - a device not unlike his telephone prototypes, that could transfer sound through light - he believed it to be his most important invention. More than 200 years later, modern communication systems are unthinkable without fibre optics, fundamentally based on the same basic physical principles, be it high speed internet cables or satellite constellations. In TRANSMITTING, two musicians operate a range of small instruments, which are build on the interaction between a laser beam and a simple photosensitive amplifier circuit.
